It Started With a Mother’s Love.

In 2014, Vanessa’s Essence was born from one of the most painful moments a parent can face. My 12-year-old daughter was being bullied because of her hair. She came home hurting, and my heart broke with hers. As a mother, I wanted to fix it—not just with words, but with action. I wanted her to feel beautiful, seen, and worthy exactly as she was.

So we started creating. Together, we learned about natural ingredients. We discovered what made her curls feel soft, healthy, and loved. Out of that pain came purpose, and out of that purpose came Vanessa’s Essence.

That Was Over a Decade Ago.

Today, my daughter is a 24-year-old woman. She’s confident, radiant, and fully rooted in who she is. The bullying is a chapter long since closed—but what remains is the lesson it taught us: that self-love is a daily practice, and that caring for your natural hair is one of the most beautiful rituals of self-care there is.
